Where are the Women? No Democracy without Gender Equality

Within the framework of this year’s parliamentary and municipal elections, the Mediterranean Institute of Gender Studies is implementing a campaign entitled “Where are the Women? No Democracy without Gender Equality”.

The aim of the campaign is to promote the equal representation of women in the House of Representatives and in local government as well as to promote and contribute to public dialogue on the persistent underrepresentation of women in political decision-making. (more…)

Press Briefing at the EU House – Sexual Abuse against Women and Children

The MEP Antigoni Papadopoulou (S&D) described the new European Directive on combating sexual abuse, sexual exploitation of children and child pornography that was adopted by the European Parliament as a major step forward with the ultimate goal of zero tolerance for all crimes against children. Project Flying Team against Violence – Combating Honour Related Violence and Forced Marriages

CALL for: Members/experts for the creation of a “Flying Team”

The EU funded project entitled “Project Flying Team against Violence – Combating Honour Related Violence and Forced Marriage”  to which MIGS is a partner, is in search of five experts that will consist the “Flying Team”, one from each participating country: The Netherlands, Sweden, Germany, Cyprus and Turkey. The END FGM European Campaign meets in Rome to discuss the way forward

On the 11th October 2011 the END FGM European Campaign organised an internal training entitled “END FGM: How to play the Game in the European Union” in Rome. Through a participatory learning environment the training aimed to build and enhance capacities, within and across the END FGM partner organisations, for successfully negotiating END FGM Strategy elements, both at the national and the European Union level. Partner organisations, strong voices and Amnesty International representatives where introduced to good ways to identify targets and develop a relevant negotiation strategy. (more…)
