Nicosia, 29.01.2013

On the 14th February 2013 one billion women and men are expected to strike, dance and rise against violence against women. The global campaign One Billion Rising began as a call to action as one billion women in the world will suffer violence during her lifetime. On 14 February 2013, the 15th anniversary of the movement V-Day, men and women at events taking place around the world will unite their voices demanding an end to violence against women.

Today, one of every three women on the planet will be raped or beaten in her lifetime. That is ONE BILLION mothers, daughters, sisters, partners, and friends. Yet, most of the world remains silent and indifferent. The time has come to put a stop to the violence, and to the silence that surrounds it.

Already, thousands of activists and organizations around the globe have signed on and events are being planned in 186 countries across the globe.  MIGS is going to be part of this global call for action, and will organise a surprise event in Nicosia on 14 February 2013 at the Mall of Cyprus in partnership with Creativity Dance Studio, European Parliament Office in Cyprus, the University of Nicosia, and Mix FM Radio 102.3. Sponsors of the event include the National Machinery for Women’s Rights – Ministry of Justice and Public Order, the Ombudsman’s Office, Nexia Poyiadjis, Panayiotides Promotional Ideas, and Kemanes Printing Ltd.

Join MIGS on 14 February 2013 to rise and dance against violence against women! One Billion Rising will make the earth move by uniting us through music and dance across every country, showing the world our collective strength and solidarity across borders.
