MIGS is pleased to announce the publication of the book “Young Migrant Women in Secondary Education: Promoting Integration and Mutual Understanding through Dialogue and Exchange”.  The book is the result of an 18-month project funded by the European Fund for the Integration of Third Country Nationals of the European Commission and coordinated by the Mediterranean Institute of Gender Studies (MIGS).  Partners to the project included  the Centre of Research in Theories and Practices that Overcome Inequalities (CREA) at the University of Barcelona, the Centre for Rights, Equalities and Social Justice (CRESJ) at the Institute of Education, University of Lodon, the Department of Sociology at Panteion University, and the Euro-Mediterranean Centre for Educational Research (EMCER) at the University of Malta.

The main objective of the project was to identify and understand how the intersection of gender and ethnic stereotyping produces forms of exclusion and marginalization as experienced by young migrant women in secondary education, with the aim to develop recommendations for policies and measures aimed at improving the quality of services and structures that respond to the needs of young migrant women in the educational context.

The book compiles the results of qualitative research implemented in the five partner countries and aims to address the gap between integration policy and the gendered negotiation of marginalization and acculturation experienced young migrant women in secondary edudcation.
