Project to Examine the Links between Domestic Violence and Poverty and Social Exclusion
The Mediterranean Institute of Gender Studies, in partnership with the Association for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in the Family, is implementing a program entitled “Examining the Links between Dometic Violence against Women and Poverty and Social Exclusion” within the framework of the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion 2010.
This project aims to examine the relationship between domestic violence and poverty and social exclusion as experienced by women victims of violence in Cyprus, using a gender equality perspective. The project also aims to develop policy recommendations aimed at improving the quality of existing structures and services to reflect the needs of women experiencing violence and are more vulnerable to poverty and social exclusion.
The project activities include:
- Qualitative research with the aim to examine the relationship between domestic violence and poverty and social exclusion as experienced by women victims of domestic violence in Cyprus.
- Conduct a mapping study of the current policies and services for support and assistance of women victims of violence.
- Develop policy recommendations aiming to improve existing structures and services in order to reflect the needs of women victims of domestic violence and reduce their risk of poverty and social exclusion.
- The publication of a report which will include the results of the research and the policy recommendations.
- Organization of a press conference to present and disseminate the project results.
