The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network (EMHRN), in partnership with MIGS, Kvinna till Kvinna (Sweeden), Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (Egypt), Adalah (Israel), is implementing the project entitled “Enhancing women’s rights, gender equality and civil society participation in the context of the Istanbul-Marrakech Process” funded by the European Union and the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation (AECID).

The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the improvement of gender equality and increasing the respect for women’s rights in the Euro-Mediterranean region. In this framework, the EMHRN wants to increase visibility of gender equality and women’s rights issues in the Euro-Med region and raise awareness of the EU-Arab instruments available, such as the the European Neighbourhood Policy and  the Istanbul Marrakech Process  (IMP).

Civil society organisations in Jordan, Lebanon, OPT, Israel, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria and Syria, Women’s groups in the Euro-Med region, Policy makers in the MENA region and EU Member States, EU and UfM institutions, and the Media, will be involved in a variety of activities foreseen by the project.

The main activities of the project include:

  • Awareness raising and Capacity Building on the Istanbul Marrakech Process (IMP): 2-day national meetings in  target countries
  • NGO conference preparing to the 2012 Euro-Med Min. meeting
  • Monitoring of and advocacy on the IMP: Report on the IMP implementation
  • Advocacy missions to EU/UfM institutions to present IMP recommendations.
  • Increasing visibility of the IMP: Press conferences/press events in target countries
  • Public event to launch the report on the IMP implementation
  • Production of a IMP Media Guide: Enhancing networking among women’s rights and human rights organisations: 6 regional meetings of women’s and human rights organisations

General Description of the EMHRN

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network (EMHRN) regroups more than 70 human rights organizations and individuals based in 30 countries in the Euro-Mediterranean region. It promotes networking, cooperation and development of partnerships between human rights NGOs, activists and wider Civil Society in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
