The Mediterranean Institute of Gender Studies (MIGS) in Cyprus, in cooperation with Antigone (Greece), Heura (Spain), the Alliance for Arab Women (Egypt), and ISIS Center for Women and Development (Morocco), would like to invite you to an innovative photo-exhibition with photos taken by young women from Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, Morocco and Spain, under the theme “Violence against Women in the Mediterranean”.The exhibition opened on the 28th of November and lasted for 1 week. It took place at the University of Nicosia and featured images submitted by young women aged 18 years – 40 years from Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, Morocco and Spain which made a creative and powerful statement on the issue of Violence against Women in the Mediterranean region. Each participating country selected its five best entries, of which one final successful photographer was selected to travel to Cyprus and represent her country in a 2-day training workshop and the final exhibition. The photographs were evaluated for their creativity, originality, gender sensitivity and their ability to raise awareness on Violence against Women to a wide audience and particularly youth. All the short-listed photographs which participated in the exhibition will be published in a final project publication on Violence against Women in April 2007.
